Breastfeeding Books – My Top Picks

If you are like me, then you may be wanting to learn as much as you can about breastfeeding before your baby is born.  Or if you are already breastfeeding, you may be having some challenges, and need a good resource that is available at your fingertips.  And if you’ve ever tried nursing another child before, but it didn’t go well, don’t despair.  I was there.  There are some really good breastfeeding books out there that can help you.  The purpose of this post is to go over my top 3 picks for the mom who is new to breastfeeding and wants to learn the basics and some solutions to common problems that you may encounter.

  1. Dr. Jack Newman’s Guide To Breastfeeding
  2. Dr. Newman is a pediatrician and lactation specialist, who is well-known in his field and speaks at various breastfeeding conferences across North America. I speak from personal experience in recommending his book, as the information he provided me when nursing my second child was invaluable and allowed me to continue on with breastfeeding. His own children were breastfed, and he offers very helpful advice on achieving a proper latch, avoiding sore nipples, and so forth.

  3. Breastfeeding For Dummies
  4. I always love any of the Dummy books! You’ll appreciate this book, because it makes things easy to find through a helpful index. It goes through all the various stages of nursing with your baby – from the first latch to working and weaning your baby.  The topics covered in this book are extensive, and you can take a peek inside the book by clicking on the link above.

  5. Breastfeeding Made Simple: Seven Natural Laws for Nursing Mothers
  6. This was actually the first book that I ever read about breastfeeding, and I liked how the chapters were designed to flow nicely from topic to topic. You can visit this link, and take a peek inside the book to see what topics are covered.

Those are my top 3 choices of breastfeeding books if you are new to breastfeeding, or if you are looking for further information to guide you in this journey. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
