Breastfeeding Pillow – An essential for any nursing mother
In my opinion, a breastfeeding pillow is an ESSENTIAL item to getting the very best start to breastfeeding. You may be wondering why you shouldn’t just save the money, and use pillows around your house. That’s what I thought! That was a big mistake I made during breastfeeding my first child, and within the first week of nursing her, I purchased one. When I went into labor with my second child, I walked into the hospital with my breastfeeding pillow in tow. I am going to give you some information on why you will want to get one, and why I recommend the My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow Light Blue.
First of all, you may recall from other posts, that successful nursing begins with achieving a correct latch. To do this, it also involves positioning your baby properly at the breast. This will decrease the chances of developing cracked and sore nipples too. This pillow is made specifically to fit around your body, stay put, and allow you to rest the weight of your baby’s body on there. Ordinary pillows just don’t meet any of those criteria!
Using a breastfeeding pillow is also beneficial for you in that you can relax more and ensure you use better body mechanics. It is easy to develop a sore back, tense shoulders, and sore wrists if you are not paying attention to your own posture when nursing your baby.
As I mentioned before, my ultimate favorite breastfeeding pillow is the My Brest Friend Deluxe Pillow Light Blue. It has a silent-release buckle and strap that you can do up to secure on your body to keep the pillow nice and close, and can be operated with one hand. There is even a little pocket on it that you can use to keep breastfeeding accessories nearby. But what I really like about this pillow is that it comes with a removable cover that can be laundered! It wasn’t that my babies would spit up on the pillow; the problem was that I sprayed and leaked milk all over it that it needed to be washed regularly.
As I said before, I consider a breastfeeding pillow an absolute essential. This is something that you will want to get before your baby is born. If your baby is already here, and you are experiencing challenges with this experience, I would still get a pillow. You will notice that it will make a big difference!
