Breastfeeding Problems – You are not alone!

You have come to the right place if you are having breastfeeding problems.  Every lactation consultant in town knew me when I gave birth to my children, because I experienced many different types of problems over the course of nursing my children.  And my problems varied all over the spectrum from having so much milk and a strong letdown reflex, that my babies would choke on the fast-flowing milk as newborns to later on, not having enough milk for the early evening feeding!  You may have problems that occur only during the first few weeks after the birth of your baby.   Or if you’re like me, you may continue to have varying problems throughout the nursing adventure.

If you’re one of the lucky few who doesn’t ever have breastfeeding problems, count yourself lucky.  I want you to know though, that this is not the norm.  Although breastfeeding is a natural, God-given ability, the procedure will not necessarily feel natural when you begin.  It takes time for you and your baby to get things in sync, and to know what to expect from one another.

If nursing your baby is important to you, please know that you can get through it under most ordinary circumstances.  I think one of the biggest mistakes that I made was assuming that it would come naturally and that I could figure it out once my baby was born.   However, once the baby is born, there are a lot of other things to learn too (ex. how to bathe your baby, use of a car seat, etc.) other than just learning about the breastfeeding.  That is why I suggest that you learn everything you possibly can before your baby is born.  Of course, it’s not all going to make sense until you put it into practice, but it will help tremendously. If your baby is already here, don’t worry.  This site is dedicated to helping you get through these problems by providing you with the resources to do so.
