Breastfeeding Video – Suggestions

One of the great things about breastfeeding videos is that you can actually view breastfeeding in action.  As well, it can be like having a lactation consultant present with you at various times of the day, even in the middle of the night when no one else is up (or at least that’s what it feels like sometimes!!). There are a number of videos out there, but I’ve narrowed it down to my top three picks.  What follows are three of my favorite breastfeeding videos:

1. Breastfeeding: How-To (2003) This DVD receives 5 stars and great customer reviews as it shows real moms breastfeeding, and includes a small section on how fathers can help out. Topics Include:
   How breastfeeding works,Early introduction to the breast, Feeding cues, Positioning at breast, Latching on, Length & frequency of feedings, Breaking suction,How to know a baby is getting enough, Maternal nutrition and rest, Tips for tough times, How dads can help, and Additional support resources.
2. My Baby Experts SIMPLY BREASTFEEDING This breastfeeding video gets five stars as well, and gets very good reviews by moms who have previously breastfed or had previously been unable to breastfeed other children.   You can skip through to the particular chapters on the DVD that can help you with a particular problem you’re having at that given time.
3. Nature’s Way: Video Guide to Breastfeeding This breastfeeding video also gets very good reviews. It even shows a real baby that is correctly latched and then incorrectly latched. The very good visuals of breastfeeding are mentioned more than once in the reviews. Topics include: Advantages of breastfeeding, How long to breastfeed, How milk is made/Mom’s diet, Positioning and Latching, How to know baby is getting enough, Pumping and Storage, Nursing discreetly, When to get help, Interactive Quiz, and Frequently asked questions.
