Twins Breastfeeding? Yes, it is possible!
Having twins presents its own unique challenges, but feeding them doesn’t have to be one of them. In this post, I am going to give you some practical ideas on breastfeeding twins.
- Just as with any other mother who has decided to nurse her baby, mothers of twins will want to learn and do everything that they can before the babies even arrive. With twins, there is a greater likelihood that your babies could be born before full term, and you therefore should not be procrastinating with anything. Make sure to have your twins’ room(s) ready, as well as the diapers, and car seats. You will also want to have purchased a good quality breast pump (see Shop for Ameda Breastpumps at Nursing Mother Supplies.), or know where you can purchase or rent one from before your babies are born, as there is a higher chance that you could be separated from your twins after the birth if they are premature.
- Purchase a special breastfeeding pillow for twins by clicking here. This pillow can even allow for hands-free nursing!
- Before your babies are even born, you will also want to make plans for the extra help you will need with laundry, making nutritious meals, and time for you to get rest breaks during the day. Don’t be afraid to ask others for this help, and you may want to limit visitors to those close friends and family who you have already asked to help out with these sorts of tasks.
- Breastfeeding twins also starts with a belief that you will have enough milk to meet your twins’ needs. Remember that milk supply works on supply and demand. So, you may want to sit down your negative family members before the birth. Tell them that your wishes are to nurse both of your babies, and that negative feedback from them will not be tolerated. Having one new baby is stressful enough, so you don’t need the additional pressures of family or a spouse who are not supportive of what you’re doing or may even be accusing you of not having enough milk.
